Our Ethos
Over the years we have developed our ethos around our own child-led approach and this is reflected in every aspect of our nursery environment. Our continuous provision is bursting with loose parts play, authentic and open-ended resources. The impact of children’s surroundings on their development has been well researched and documented. Years of experience and practice has shaped our pedagogy, taking inspiration from pioneers such as Reggio, Montessori and Steiner. By bringing all these wonderful influences together with mindful practitioners, inspirational play and opportunities occur.
Our Approach
At Littleminds Learning Centre, children have the opportunity to grow within a caring, secure and stimulating environment. Offering space and time for children to explore and discover the world around them, providing opportunities for children to take controlled and calculated ‘risks’.
Positive language tells children why and how to do certain things, we implement this communication strategy and our staff is continuously trained. Positive language reduces stress and fear, and boost confidence, understanding and empowerment.
Children are encouraged to think and talk about their learning.
Loris Malaguzzi, founder of the Reggio Approach, describes the “infinite ways that children can express, explore, and connect their thoughts, feelings and imaginings.”
These languages (the Hundred Languages of Children) are symbolic and are open to the endless potentials in children. They believe in the potential of a child’s ability to wonder. It is the belief that there are “multiple ways of seeing and multiple ways of being.”
Natural environments
Both centres offer superb natural environments indoor and outdoor where children learn and thrive! As a Centre we recognise and value the importance of learning in natural environments.
We see children as active builders of knowledge, like little scientists who construct their own theories of the world. We believe that children need to be active learners, led by their own interests and to freely explore them. Natural environments offer this opportunity!
